Lady Gaby

LADY GABY is a Berlin based Australian spoken word and performance artist, creative writing and projects coordinator as well as event promoter, has been involved in the international spoken word scene since the 90s. organiser of Fuel, From the MOUTH OF DAMES, The Poetic Groove, lady gaby devotes energy in bringing poetry into the spotlight to make it ‘COOL AND GROOVY’ to be performed at dance clubs, performance venues and cultural festivals. She loves poets whose work is provocative, on the edge and relevant to everyone around.

I am Lady Gaby, a performance/visual artist & curator, who finds artistic inspiration in my surroundings. Provocative, in-your-face performances dealing with feminism and social justice, I create installations/works with feminine, common everyday objects, recycled materials, words and street art. Via Romania/Australia and since the fall of the Wall, Berlin is where I found my feet, my ideals and performance power to go against the flow and the patriarchal system. I graced the stages of many international cities as a performer & curator.

I am Lady Gaby, a performer, the hostess with the mostess, a writer and event organiser.

My words make up my mind about the world around me. I like my performances to be provocative and express my daily life, the encounters with others and my surroundings. ‘Gaby, dressed in purple and green, takes the microphone and with her words takes over everybody’s souls. Words of truth, love, society, anger and values. Eyes of life.’ I love to interact with my audience and I use them as my props, as my allies in the performances. I share as much with them as I take from them.

I turn MY spoken words into interactive, in- your-face performance accompanied by beats, projections and costumes. a ‘Sexy and Powerful show’. i turn my feminine products, my sex tools, and other appliance objects into noise making instruments. I turn my costumes into DADA collages, made up of recycled materials as well as beauty and kitchen products. I want to show that all typical tools of a woman can have another meaning, beauty and usage.

I can be dynamite and weird at a performance art show, provocative and loud at a slam, rocky and electrifying at a live music party, feministic at a femme and queer show, LADY GABY’S performance fits any stage and takes over the audience with a fury. ‘I GO ANYTIME ANYWHERE I WILL BE THERE! JUST WATCH ME! I AM NOT THE GIRL NEXT DOOR. I AM JUST MYSELF!

I LIKE EACH PERFORMANCE I DO TO BE SITE SPECIFIC, ORGANIC, on the SPARE OF THE MOMENT, LIVE IN THAT TIME. I WANT EVERY PERFORMANCE TO FORCE ME BEYOND MY BOUNDARIES, to be loud and obvious. I DON’T WANT TO BE SILENT; NOR QUITE AND NOT INTREVERTED.

My surroundings inspire and drive my work. My creativity comes organically from what I see and what I hear. My artistic aim is to express my desires and hopes for a better world away from consumerism, sexism, capitalism and social injustice. I believe that our values and lifestyles have been influenced too much by the media and corporations that are taking away our self confidence and the need to think for ourselves in what we desire and aim for.

Capitalism and new technology have replaced values, identities and cultural traditions with the need to consume, overwork as cheap labour and decrease our personal rights as human beings. My artistic journey deals with the need to overcome this and return to a world where we care for humanity and strive for equal human rights, regardless of race, social status and gender.

I want the audience to see me and right through me, share my life and be part of my shows. I want to step on their toes, sometimes gently, sometimes not.

My voice, my instrument, my body, my spirit, my movements, my props, the objects of my life. my brain, my persona, my gender, my pride.
