A Watercoloured Summer

Rinaldo Hopf has been closely connected to The Ballery since 2014 and remains one of the gallery’s longest-standing exhibiting artists. Living less than 200 metres from the gallery, Hopf’s artistic journey has evolved alongside that of The Ballery, creating a relationship deeply rooted in the neighbourhood of Schöneberg.

A Watercoloured Summer presents a remarkable selection of watercolour paintings drawn from the artist’s archives, many dating from the mid to late 1980s. While preparing the exhibition, works were uncovered that had not previously been exhibited at The Ballery and, in some cases, had remained unseen for decades.

The paintings reveal a vibrant and confident period in Hopf’s artistic development. Rich in colour, atmosphere and observation, they capture a sense of freedom and immediacy that feels particularly resonant during the summer season.

Curated from a larger body of archival material, the exhibition brings together what The Ballery considers some of the strongest watercolours from this period, offering visitors a rare opportunity to encounter an important chapter in the artist’s creative evolution.

Bonanza – Limited Edition Print

Published by The Ballery on the occasion of A Watercoloured Summer (2026), this limited edition fine art print offers collectors a rare opportunity to acquire one of Rinaldo Hopf’s most celebrated contemporary images.

The original painting Bonanza (2018) is held in the collection of the Tom of Finland Foundation in Los Angeles. This edition has been produced in close collaboration with the artist and marks a significant moment in his long artistic career.

Printed on museum-grade Hahnemühle William Turner 100% cotton rag paper, the work benefits from a richly textured watercolour surface that enhances colour, depth and detail while ensuring exceptional archival longevity.

Each print is individually signed and numbered by the artist.

A framed example of the edition will be exhibited during the opening of A Watercoloured Summer at The Ballery on Saturday, 4 July 2026.
