Anietie was born in Nigeria and lives in London, where he works as a doctor in a hospital. His expressive paintings process the range of feelings that many people with an ethnic, sexual or otherwise different identity carry with them, even if they have lived in a relatively tolerant European metropolis for years.

“When I’m drawing , I don’t try to give a meaning or make sense of what I’m creating in that moment . This is why also, I prefer not to give a title to my works. I think it gives the audience a chance to interpret my art the way they see and feel it. Preserving a bit of mystery these days is more then ever part of my goals”.

This year 2024, The Ballery celebrates its 10 year anniversary. Since opening in 2014, The Ballery has been the Berlin home of established artist Rinaldo Hopf.

Opening on 27th June The Ballery will show works from its archive by Rinaldo Hopf over a weekend which also coincides with Rinaldo’s 69th birthday.

Rinaldo Hopf was born in 1955 in Freiburg, Germany. In Germany Rinaldo’s contribution to gay culture is unparalleled. Primarily known as a master of watercolours, Rinaldo’s works have been presented in major exhibitions around the world.

The Ballery collection features works from 1990 which have been shown over the last 10 years plus new paintings from 2024.
