Creative Operations & Development Partner (Freelance)
The Ballery is seeking a highly organised, conscientious and entrepreneurial person to collaborate closely with its director, Simon Williams, across the operational and developmental life of the organisation.
This is not a conventional salaried position or assistant role. It is a freelance collaborative role within an evolving independent arts environment based in Schöneberg.
The Ballery works across exhibitions, performances, concerts, publications, cultural initiatives, local community projects and interdisciplinary artistic programming. The director develops many ideas and projects simultaneously, and the role therefore requires someone who enjoys creating structure, continuity and follow-through around a highly creative environment.
We are looking for someone who:
- is exceptionally organised and reliable,
- communicates professionally and clearly,
- speaks and writes excellent German,
- works independently and proactively,
- enjoys project management and operational coordination,
- and is interested in helping develop sustainable artistic and cultural initiatives.
The ideal collaborator is already based in Berlin and ideally lives in or near Schöneberg, with an understanding of the local cultural landscape and an appreciation for independent artistic spaces.
The role may include:
- project coordination and follow-through,
- communication and administration,
- funding and partnership support,
- operational organisation,
- production management,
- scheduling and workflow coordination,
- strategic development,
- and occasional personal management support surrounding the director’s workflow and commitments.
This role is intended for someone entrepreneurial and self-directed who is comfortable working freelance and collaboratively.
Compensation is intended to develop through a combination of:
- project management fees,
- production budgets,
- successful funding applications,
- partnerships,
- independently developed initiatives,
- and revenue-generating projects created in collaboration with The Ballery.
A modest base retainer may be possible depending on circumstances, but the long-term goal is for the role to become substantially self-sustaining through the opportunities and value it helps generate.
This position may particularly suit:
- cultural producers,
- independent arts managers,
- creative project coordinators,
- entrepreneurial arts administrators,
- or highly organised creatives looking to become deeply involved in a growing cultural platform.
To apply, please send:
- a short introduction,
- relevant experience or CV,
- and a few words about why this role interests you.
We are especially interested in hearing from people who value independent culture, long-term thinking, and the role of artistic spaces within neighbourhood life.
